The Los Angeles wildfires has been one of California’s greatest disasters. Many of us have had great concerns about all the animals who have been affected; domestic, wild and livestock. Although we have witnessed people working for the greater good in times of immense challenges and stress. It was gratifying to see the efforts that were made and many of those efforts were heroic.
One heroic act is transporting animals in times of crisis from one place to another. During disasters shelters often face the disheartening task of euthanizing animals to make room for animals who have been displaced in the area. Meet Wings of Rescue and welcome to modern times and creative thinking!

Wings of Rescue was once of the animal groups who was in Los Angeles immediately. Partnering with shelters in the stricken areas and with shelters who will accept animals at the other end, allows animals to be moved out with a better chance of adoption and a place for displaced animals to go and be safe. This is the process, and it takes an immense amount of networking, team work and strategy.
I witnessed one of the loading of crates process before the plane left LA for Seattle Humane. In under an hour with the help of volunteers, they loaded 78 dog and cat passengers safely under the watchful eye of CEO Ric Browde, who was loading each crate himself as it came up the ramp to the plane.

Perhaps the most impressive part of this one trip designed to give these dogs and cats a chance at a loving home, was the fact that the line waiting to adopt these LA dogs and cats from the shelters, was down the block the next day at Seattle Humane! Everyone involved in this enormous effort came through one hundred percent!
A great example of what true partnerships can do for the greater good!
