The Journals of Daniel Eldon

Why do we record, keep journals, photograph, write or create art? This is the ritual of recording. This is for the things not to be forgotten. This is the art of storytelling. In this workshop we explore the process of storytelling through imagery and words. Journaling can be considered collecting, but with much more intention. We collage, assemble, draw, and/or write. A journal is formally known in book form, but can also be boxed, as a pinboard on a wall, or take on a whole new form as you create it. The process of this ritual is what we will be discussing in this explorative virtual workshop.

We will explore journaling through history featuring works from Leonardo Da Vinci, Frida Kahlo, Judy Chicago, Maira Kaman and many others.

Why Journaling?

Journaling is a way to document a significant period in our lives, a thought, feeling or place. More importantly Journaling helps us to to be present in the space. It allows us to truly experience an event, place, person and/or animal. With deep introspection, thoughtful application and careful attention we experience the event with all our senses. NO ART EXPERIENCE NEEDED This process isn’t about art-making and the judgement that comes with that (either internally or externally). This is about the process. As Daniel Eldon has coined, “The Journey IS the Destination”. This workshop proves the process IS the experience.
